To our loyal patrons, volunteers, and members of the community:  After nearly a decade of serving fresh hot meals to San Diego’s homeless community, So Others May Eat, Inc. was deliberately and maliciously shut down by “The La Jolla Town Council” and “Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church” in La Jolla, CA.  We were instructed to end all operations immediately, including providing hot meals to the homeless, ending our food pantry program, our holiday dinner parties, and our Christmas gift giving celebration.

Unfortunately, So Others May Eat Inc., and Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church are no longer in partnership to provide hot meals to San Diego’s homeless community. The La Jolla Town Council and Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church made the decision to shut down the bi-weekly dinners in lieu of continuing helping those in need.  Pastor Jim Rafferty of Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, was quoted by Fox 5 San Diego, “I don’t want to be known as the pastor who brought Hepatitis to La Jolla”

Matthew 35:35-36

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, in prison and you visited me.”

So Others May Eat will continue it’s mission of helping all those in need. We are currently speaking with various community organizers around San Diego to help relocate our operations and continue doing God’s work. Helping those in need is not our job, it’s our mission. If you’re hungry, WE will help feed you.  If you’re thirsty WE will help quench you’re thirst. If you’re sick, WE will help heal you. If you’re naked, WE will help clothe you. And if you’re lonely, WE will help comfort you. Everyone is welcome, and WE intend to continue our mission of helping ALL of God’s children, regardless of who you are.

Thank you.
